Laughing Song
From Songs of Innocence
by William Blake

When the green woods laugh with the voice of joy,
And the dimpling stream runs laughing by;
When the air does laugh with our merry wit,
And the green hill laughs with the noise of it;

When the meadows laugh with lively green,
And the grasshopper laughs in the merry scene;
When Mary and Susan and Emily
With their sweet round mouths sing 'Ha ha he!'

When the painted birds laugh in the shade,
Where our table with cherries and nuts is spread:
Come live, and be merry, and join with me,
To sing the sweet chorus of 'Ha ha he!
'

The Raw Dawn

Suggested Items to Bring
* drinking water
* serving and eating bowls & utensils
* paper towels
* beach blanket
* lawn chairs
* summer clothes
* heavy clothing
* sunscreen
* hat
* sports gear
* musical instrument
* bandaids, tweezers, etc. (just in case)

Weather
Expect dry, breezy conditions, sunny or overcast with temperatures of anywhere from the 50s to the 90s. That’s right -- it can be downright cold and blustery at the Sonoma coast in the summer even if it’s very hot inland! Bring a hooded sweatshirt and other heavy clothing! The ocean is too cold for swimming at any time.

Local Natural Features
* The mouth of the Russian River is only 20 minutes to the north. It offers sunning, swimming, inner tubing, canoeing and kayaking. Some of us will go swimming.
* Sebastopol has many small organic farms with some offering fruit picking. http://www.farmtrails.org/news.html. In season: Gravenstein apples, berries, stone fruits, tomatoes, melons, cukes, corn, etc. Local figs, possibly.
* Point Reyes National Seashore is 50 minutes to the southwest. This near-pristine, otherworldly national park is a nature-lover's utopia with amazing vistas, flora and fauna, including whale watching. It also has hiking, camping,
* Tomales Bay is a long finger just the the east of Pt. Reyes. It's ideal for kayaking and offers hiking and serene shoreline vistas.

Camping
There are several motor home sites and one tent-only site: the Miwok Camp Site.
Book early -- it is unlikely that spots will be available after June!
Reservations: (707) 565-2267 10:00 am - 3:00 pm M-F.

Directions from San Francisco
Take Hwy. 101 North.
Take either Hwy. 116 West from Cotati to downtown Sebastopol, or Hwy. 12 West from Santa Rosa to downtown Sebastopol.
At the center of downtown Sebastopol, head west on Bodega Hwy., and go 10.5 miles all the way to the coastal Hwy. 1.
(While driving on Bodega Hwy., two minutes before you reach Hwy 1, you’ll drive through the little town of Bodega. On a hill on the left is an old white church with a high steeple. It was the famed schoolhouse in the scene where children were attacked by crows in Albert Hitchcock’s “The Birds” movie.)
At the end of Bodega Hwy. you will reach a stop sign. Make a right on Hwy. 1 heading north.
Go 3.7 miles. Pass Bodega Bay Lodge & Spa on the left and make the next left onto Doran Park Rd.
Go 1/4 mile on Doran Park Rd. and make a sharp right onto Doran Beach Rd.
Drive up to the booth and pay the $6.00 park entrance fee.
Drive straight1/2 mile, looking for the parking lot on the left with a sign that reads: “Cypress Day Use Area.” We’ll be at the picnic tables on the left -- look for the “Raw Passion is Here!” banner. We’ll also be on the beach to the left of the restrooms.
